| Abstract | Surveillance is a key issue in the contemporary societies. Since the concepts such as postmodernism, globalism or information society are being discussed, in order to enlighten the basic social changes; the surveillance society concept is pointing out the significant social processes that are sourced and influenced by those changes. Internet technology is a major landmark in the surveillance concept. Because the Internet not only changed the structure of the surveillance technologies, but increased its impact area as well. In this paper, the new surveillance characteristics are discussed in the conceptual framework of surveillance. In this context, the characteristics of the Internet, which is an electronic surveillance tool at the heart of the new surveillance concept, and the surveillance applications changed are mentioned. |
