Abstract + KeywordsAbstract
XML is becoming the standard data exchange language over the web. Due to its simple structure, it is widely used in the electronic business applications, which brings the problem of storage. This paper describes some methods to store XML documents in relational databases and proposes a query processing mechanism to retrieve the results. XML data from all sources is stored in five tables based on an indexing technique for each element and word in document. In order to retrieve necessary elements, the queries in XQL are translated into SQL and executed by the underlying database management system. Some post processing is necessary to return the results in XML format.
